In this 2003 murder thriller, three young boys Jimmy, Dave, and Sean are seen playing in the street until they are stopped by two men who pose as police officers. Dave is put into the backseat of the car and is missing for four days. He manages to escape, but he sees that he died that day; Dave is no longer him anymore. Fast forward to them being adults with children. The three men no longer are best friends and all live their own lives. Dave is now a store owner with his oldest daughter Kat as an employee. Sean is now working Homicide cases with the police force. Dave is now a blue collar worker to keep his family going. A night out for Kat takes a turn when her body is found the next morning in the “pig pen” in the woods. Sean is put on the case, however, Jimmy has people on the side also investigating as he thinks his men will do it faster. Heartache rocks everyone’s world as Kat was only 19 years old with a loving boyfriend and happy family. Kat’s boyfriend, Brendan Harris has a mute little brother, Silent Ray Harris, who has a sidekick of a best friend, John. Things start to get messy when Dave comes home the same night that Kat was murdered with blood all over him, but Celeste, his loyal wife, covers for him as she is told he was mugged. As the movie plays on, more and more suspicion rises towards Dave, until Jimmy takes matters into his own hands. During this, scenes cut back and forth between the Harris brothers fighting about Kat’s murder, causing the audience to be dragged through an emotional roller coaster. In the end, Kat receives justice for her death, but there is still much heartache to be felt.
I would definitely recommend this to a friend who is a fan of gore and excitement, but also one who is prepared to feel every emotion the characters feel. This movie shows the importance of family and what one is willing to do for theirs. It shows that friendships can be broken, but some will always come back in the end. I would rate this movie 9/10.

In this movie, Reese Witherspoon stars as a heartbroken, classic rich girl who thinks she is getting proposed to at a dinner, but is in for a rude awakening when her boyfriend, Warner breaks up with her to become more serious in his law career. Witherspoon’s character, Elle, decides she too is going to go to Harvard and start a career in law and somehow makes it into the school. Elle brings her sidekick dog, Bruce, with her as he is her main system of support. The first day of class was a rough start for Elle as she was unaware of the homework that was assigned for the first day of class and was kicked out. She goes outside to collect her thoughts and makes a friend; Emmett. While she is talking to Emmett and telling him her story, Warner passes by and is with Vivian, his new fiancé, who is also the girl who got Elle kicked out of class 20 minutes ago. Heartbroken and confused, Elle goes to the nail salon for a therapeutic manicure, where she befriends her nail tech who is in love with the mail man, but is too shy to talk to him. After a few weeks, Elle convinces her to talk to him, causing them to fall in love. Meanwhile, Elle is hard at work in her studies and is given the opportunity to join a law team that is working a murder case. This case is of a woman who is suspected of killing her new husband for the money. Elle happens to know the wife and is in a crossing when she finds out that the wife did not kill him and has an air tight alibi of getting botox. However, the wife refuses to say where she was as it would ruin her career. The couple’s pool boy is put on the stand and claims the wife killed her husband because they were having an affair and she wanted her husband gone. However, Elle finds this to be far from the truth as she discovers that the pool boy is dating another man and therefore, could not be dating the wife. The next person on the stand is the daughter of the husband, step daughter to the wife. She claims she was getting a perm that morning as her usual routine and was in the shower when she heard the gunshots. Being the fashion fanatic she was, Elle found the flaw in this statement and made the daughter repeat it several times before exposing that if the daughter had been getting routine perms, she would know that hair cannot be washed within the first 48 hours of getting a perm. The daughter then breaks and confesses to killing her father in order to frame and get rid of the wife. At the end of trial, Warner asks for Elle to come back to him, but is quickly denied as she has fallen in love with Emmett, who is also in love with her. As the movie ends, we see her career take off and her status lifted because of this case she won.
This is definitely a movie I would recommend to a friend as it shows that women are more than what a man decides she is worth. It teaches that true love is not about convenience or status, but about caring for each other and supporting the other through everything in order to grow together. It shows that a woman does not need a man to be successful in life and that there is more to life than chasing a boy. This movie conveys the difference between a boy and a man; a boy will leave you and expect you to come back, but a man would never leave you in the first place for their own benefits. I would give this movie a 10/10. |
